It's that Magical time of the year - Pineapple Season

We love pineapples at Bali Lush, so much so that we have over 600+ in the garden. We originally started with a handful and have continued to plant doubling our crop every year.

The boys brining in a record haul for a single day harvest: 27 pineapples.

Quite Interesting:

• Pineapples don't grow on trees like coconuts, they grow as small shrubs. They grow at the rate of one fruit, per plant per year. When you consider this, makes the price of pineapples today seem to actually be a bargain.

• It is from the Bromeliad family of plants, and is indigenous to South America. Which is probably why it makes for a great fresh salsa, which we make in our restaurant and serve as a starter.

• The pineapple was a status symbol in Georgian and Victorian England, if you couldn't afford the exorbitant price tag, you could rent one to display on your buffet table to impress your guests (as a decoration only, far to valuable to eat). See this fascinating article on the BBC website
